How We Reach People
Brainwave’s objective is to have every child in New Zealand raised with care & security. Brainwave aims to reach people with vital information on what is happening inside our baby’s brains in the first critical years, and how this impacts on adulthood.
How we reach people:
Professionally trained presenters are available to deliver a variety of talks tailored to suit different audiences.
This website – please investigate it further for detailed information, new research articles and useful links.
Booklets, DVDs and written material - We have brochures available for distribution. We also have three DVDs available for purchase. See Resources – Our Publications & DVDs for further information & pricing. You can also download an order form from there.
Cuddlewraps - In order to reach all mothers of new-born babies in New Zealand with essential parenting information we have produced a Brainwave cuddlewrap which is printed with key Brainwave messages in four languages, English, Maori, Samoan and Chinese, to encourage the healthy nurturing needed for optimal brain development. It comes in a pack with our information booklet and one from Sport & Recreation New Zealand (SPARC) and is distributed in the Bounty giftpack through the maternity hospitals and midwives to reach 98% of new parents nationwide. It has been made possible by SPARC whose Active Movement initiative promotes the message that quality physical movement is important for the healthy development of a child’s brain and that young children learn from movement and being physically active, which complements Brainwave’s philosophy. The cuddlewrap and booklets are only available in the Bounty packs or through midwives when funding is available. We currently have no funding available and the last of our wraps were distributed in November 2009. We hope we will be able to make them available again soon.
Lobbying policy-makers. Brainwave trustees advisors and presenters are in contact with policy-makers to lobby on behalf of children.
Jigsaw Member Agency We recently became an affiliated member of Jigsaw – a network of agencies working to stop child abuse, neglect and family violence in our communities. We are all working to help families raise their children in safe, nuturing ways.
