Dr Ian Hassall M.B., Ch.B., D.C.H., F.R.A.C.P.
Ian Hassall is a paediatrician and children’s advocate. He was New Zealand’s first Commissioner for Children and before that Medical Director for the Plunket Society. He currently chairs Children’s Agenda, is Senior Research Fellow for the Institute of Public Policy at AUT and Health Sector Manager for the Domestic Violence Centre.
As an advocate Ian Hassall campaigns for child-focussed public policy, child safety and health, parent participation in policy-making and effective protection of children from abuse and neglect. Along with Lesley Max, Ian works on the Brainwave committee at lobbying policy-makers on behalf of children.
