Lesley Max MBE, MA (Hons)
Lesley Max is CEO and co-founder of Pacific Foundation. She introduced the Home Interaction Programme for Parents and Youngsters (HIPPY) to New Zealand, as well as devising the Family Service Centre model of primary school-based one-stop-shops for parents and children.
Other work in the area of under-privileged children includes writing a book “Children - Endangered Species?” (Penguin 1990); successfully lobbying for the introduction into New Zealand of Family Start, an intensive prevention programme for families at risk; collaborating on a large scale mentoring scheme designed to assist low-income and Maori and Pacific young people gain equitable access to university while avoiding excessive student debt. She is secretary of Children’s Agenda and is on many other committees and boards. Her skills in lobbying on behalf of children are well used on the Brainwave committee.
